Why you should stop sleeping on "Stop Sleepin" Vol 1 and 2.

BY YTONIO First Impressions.

Over the years Sker Mcgurt has been pushing some of the best music in the city, his unique style and approach to the mic are unmatched and his appearance on Detroit RapNews’s new mixtape series “Stop Sleepin Vol 1” is a much-needed reminder to people why they need to wake up our selves included. The project is a 5 song EP and while some EP’s can feel slapped together this one feels fully fleshed out. And then there’s “Stop Sleepin Vol 2” which is in stark contrast to Vol 1 giving you a sort of B side, the music on Vol 2 leans more in the smoother melodic R&B style of records, while 1 is more hardcore rap Vol 1 and 2 are definitely like day and night. Artist Samuel Shabazz did some very nice vocal work on the track “Love On Me” one of my favorites and Yung Juno did a great on “Drake Bag” at first listen I thought Drake was on the song he had his cadence, flow, and style down packed. These two are nice follow-ups to “Ear 2 The Streetz” however while that album had a more wide array of artists these two felt more isolated and personal with just one artist to carry each tape Sker Mcgurt and Yung Juno respectively did their jobs right and made some heat. Ultimately These two EPs feel good next to each other as the two different sounds give you that variety and a reason to listen to both or one over the other, you check out both projects below.
